Take a Walk on the Wild Side!

Wilderness Southeast now offers a fun and easy way for you to get to know the wild things that live near you. The Georgia coast is an intriguing and intricate world. The "Walk on the Wild Side" (WOWS) series will provide a monthly opportunity to gain new understanding about things you may have walked right by for years.

WOWS invite the public to join a Wilderness Southeast naturalist guide for a two-hour foray on the final Saturday of every month. Each "soft adventure" Saturday will focus on different wildlife and habitat, offering a more intimate look at your coastal backyard.

Schedule of Events:

June 29: 4:30-6:30 pm Join expert birders Lydia Thompson & Diana Churchill at the entrance to the Harris Neck National Wildlife Refuge to witness the amazing spectacle of communal nesting of thousands of herons, egrets, ibis, wood storks. An unforgettable experience well worth the drive!
July 27: Time TBA Come aboard with boat captain and naturalist guide Rene Heidt to observe dolphins, egrets, crabs, and even oysters -- all hard at work. BOAT SPACE IS LIMITED; RESERVATIONS REQUIRED! Suggested donation $20.
August 31: 9:30-11:30am Join herpetologist Bobby Moulis at the Savannah Ogeechee Canal Museum for a close look at native turtles and snakes. How do they eat, sleep, meet a mate, and protect their babies?

Wilderness Southeast is a not-for-profit educational organization based in Savannah, GA. Since 1973 Wilderness Southeast naturalist guides have been escorting folks into wild places and sharing with them the fun of learning about nature. Over the years many area residents have told Wilderness Southeast guides that they never knew there was so much to see in these places theyıd been visiting their whole lives. When asked what Wilderness Southeast does, Joyce Murlless, Executive Director, likes to say, "We teach people to see."

Special thanks to Ms. Joyce Murlless for providing this description of Walk on the Wild Side for tourists to the Savannah area.
