After a February 13th meeting with the Community Resources Coordinators in Baton Rouge, the state of Louisiana has approved Nightingale Services under their waiver Medicaid program. The On-Site Project Director, Mr. Brian Bruce, and Ms. Teresa Franks, the Unit Supervisor, attended the informative Power Point presentation given by Nightingale President, Mr. Hal Sims. Also in attendance was the Community Resources Coordinators staff of over twenty-three Case Managers and support personnel.
During the 20-minute presentation, Mr. Sims shared how important it is to offer a medical alarm service that can be instated within three days. In addition to stressing how important these services are in the event of an emergency, he pointed out that almost all of the clients who receive services under a waiver program are already certified for nursing home placement. “If we are able to intervene and install our medical alarm, most continue to live independently in their homes on the average of 3 to 4 more years,” Mr. Sims stressed.
It is also a wonder service for caregivers who need a break. Our over-watch continues to be available while the caregiver is away on an errand or short visits.
This issue speaks to the heart of our service and explains why we are so popular with the elderly. We help loved ones live longer in their homes.
In addition, Nightingale Services has hired Ms. Michelle Ward to be our representative in Baton Rouge. She will also be available to meet with other area agencies. We will also be adding staff to assist her cover the state.
“What else can I say?” Mr. Sims concluded, “The presentation was held just before Mardi Gras, and the local population that we met was very hospitable and friendly. It was a lovely place to visit.”
